It all started with a whistle - otherwise known as the Scully
Ventalarm® - which revolutionized the oil delivery business.
With a whistling that could be heard from outside and stopped
when a home heating tank was full, the Ventalarm® eliminated
the necessity of someone being home when the delivery person
came. It prevented spills, and maintained the competitive
position of home heating oil versus gas and electrical utilities.
Invented in 1936 by Frank P. Scully I, an M.I.T. graduate and
entrepreneur, the first Scully Ventalarms were manufactured in
his garage in Cambridge Mass. Soon thereafter they were being
manufactured in Scully's present manufacturing site in Wilmington,
Mass. If your home is oil-heated, chances are that its oil tank
is outfitted with Scully Signal Company's original product - the
Ventalarm®. Over the next six decades, Scully has launched
a whole series of fuel oil delivery products, including gauges,
tightfill connectors, delivery nozzles, as well as engine speed,
flow and overfill protection controls. Together these products
improve petroleum delivery efficiency by controlling fills and
eliminating spills.
